Veterinary Student Externship and Veterinary Technician Apprenticeship Programs
At Crazy Mountain Veterinary Service, we’re passionate about supporting the next generation of veterinary professionals. Our externship and apprenticeship programs provide hands-on experience, professional mentorship, and the opportunity to learn from a team deeply committed to rural, mixed, and large animal medicine.
Veterinary Student Externships
For many years, Crazy Mountain Veterinary Service has been proud to welcome veterinary students seeking real-world experience in mixed and large animal practice. Externs gain valuable exposure to both in-clinic and on-farm medicine, working directly alongside our veterinarians in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
We especially encourage students to plan their externships in the spring calving season, when they can participate in herd health work, calving calls, pregnancy checks, and other essential livestock services. It’s an ideal opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-life cases while learning the challenges and rewards of serving agricultural communities.
Externship opportunities are limited and may not always be open for new applicants. To inquire about availability or upcoming opportunities, please contact Dr. Rebecca Gibbs at becca@crazymountainvet.com.
Veterinary Technician Apprenticeship Program
We’re proud to offer a Veterinary Technician Apprentice Program designed to help our team members grow their careers while continuing their important work in our clinic. This two-year program, led by Program Coordinator Dr. Emily Gosda, combines mentorship, hands-on training, and formal education to prepare participants for licensure as Veterinary Technicians in Montana.
Apprentices gain extensive practical experience, completing 4,500 hours of supervised work and training alongside our experienced veterinary team. They also take approved college coursework to strengthen their technical and medical knowledge.
By the end of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and pursue full licensure.
This program reflects our ongoing commitment to:
Investing in the professional development of our team
Supporting access to high-quality veterinary education in Montana
Strengthening the level of care we provide to our clients and their animals
We’re always happy to connect with motivated, animal-loving individuals who are passionate about building a career in veterinary medicine. To learn more about the apprenticeship program or upcoming openings, please reach out to our team.
